Crown Hotel Bawtry Team put feet up after Charity Bike Ride!!

The five-man team of long distance cyclists from Bawtry’s Crown Hotel have completed their marathon fundraising Coast-to-Coast ride.

Staff members Des White, Codie Thompson, Micky Winter, Adam Hancock and Peter Ward pedalled the gruelling 150 miles of tracks and roads from Whitehaven to Tynemouth in three days to raise funds for Cancer Research UK.

Des, aged 37, form Tickhill, is used to tough tasks as for seven years he served in the Royal Navy as a weapons engineer - but he still found the big ride to be a real test.

He said: “The first day of riding took us the 55 miles from Whitehaven to Penrith and took in some really hilly terrain. It was a hard day during which I damaged the ligaments in my knee.

“It was just a question of keeping going over the massive hills on day two from Penrith to Allenheads during which we climbed 1,900ft over the summit of Hartshead.

“Day three was a long one of 75 miles but it was less hilly and it turned out to be a pleasant ride. I was a little nervous at the start of the ride, as I knew that it was going to be hard going. But I really enjoyed the entire experience and it was a fantastic feeling to have completed the ride.

“We were able to celebrate at the finish in Tynemouth by tucking into fish and chips.”

It was Bawtry man Micky Winter’s third fundraising Coat 2 Coast ride - and he is already planning next year’s expedition to Vietnam.
